Salkantay

Salkantay

One of the protector Apus(mountains) of Cusco city, Salkantay is one of the many Inca Trails to Machu Picchu, that contain differents natural areas. Mixed mountain range with  leafy vegetación of the jungle of Cusco deparment.

The Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu begins with a journey from Cusco city to Mollepata town, where starts the trek for the lagoon in crystal waters crowned by glaciers of Vilcabamba range. This place starts to draw the attention on the way Salkantay to Machu Picchu, 'cause it is dominated by turquoise waters that contrast with the white snow of the mountain and the intense blue of the range sky of Cusco range, where we felt tiny compared to the snowy peaks. Then we'll arrive to Salkantay pampa (4200 m.s.n.m.m), where we encounter with indomitable mountain of Salkantay, that show up a steep slope toward the open side of the same name. This plac its full of apachetas (stone markers) to 4549 m.s.n.m..

We are look around and seems to be extremely approach to touch the snow and to get the other face of Tucarhuay snow capped, where you can enjoy the snowy landscape that give us as Pumasillo, that are 6,100 meters along with other mountains of the Cordillera Vilcabamba.

Almost finishing the route of Salkantay to Machu Picchu, the road begins to descend to mingle with the lush vegetation of Cusco deparment, where orchids, butterflies, leafy trees and waterfalls crossing the nature trails we announce the presence of the forest and landscapes, growing green, appropriates the mountains.

We continue the journey and the next day we go into the forest to take the Inca Trail that leads to complex Llactapata, inca point control, a kind of dairy farm where we spotted the Huayna Picchu and the terraces of the citadel, we see what they call the back of the Inca complex, another look and another way to reach our final destination: Machu Picchu. We went down and left behind hydroelectric tours trails.
